Diabetes
I have Type 2 Diabetes. I was diagnosed in August of 2008 but I believe the symptoms really began in 1989. Yeah, I could have had it all that time.
My son was born in May of 1989. I had gestational diabetes and he weighed 9 lbs 10 oz. My father and maternal grandfather both died from complications of diabetes. So it was inevitable that I’d get it too. Sheesh. I had hoped I wouldn’t get it until my 60s.
So, I was in the doctor’s office discussing my LRD when the doctor asked me how long I had had diabetes. I said, “I don’t have diabetes”. He did a finger stick and showed me 200. So, not knowing much about diabetes I said, “yeah but that’s because I haven’t eaten all day.” Poor, naive me.
Here I am a year later. I take 1000 mg of Metformin, 2 mg of Glimepiride, and 10 units of Lantis (insulin) and I still can’t get my numbers down to normal.
